BUTSUDO

BUTSUDO is a Buddhist altar produced using the traditional "Shikomi Butsudan" format. The good thing about having “Shikomi Butsudan“ is that you can maximize the sublimeness of the place of prayer.

The ceiling is characterized by the decoration of solid wood with gold leaf and the soft lighting made with Mino Washi (Japanese paper) that floats like a cloud. A halo is physically created by placing the lighting inside, creating a comfortable light that makes you want to pray to the shining Buddhist altar.

The platform in the center, called “Sumidan“, is where the principal object of worship is placed. It is also the border where the platform and above represents the sky of the purified world of Buddha, and below is the ground. The two iconic horizontal pillars are carved by Hida craftsmen with technique called “Naguri carving“, allowing you to feel the traditional Japanese technique unique to solid wood. In addition to Hida's famous “Naguri“ carving, the Washi lighting uses lantern technique that has been inherited by the clear streams such as the Nagara River, and all parts such as metal fittings are manufactured in Gifu.

With the change of living style, the significance of existence of the Buddhist altar itself has diminished, and the shape of the Buddhist altar has also changed. We hope that you will feel the splendor of your family's prayerful life through BUTSUDO.
