HUMOFIT® pipe chair
HUMOFIT® is a new material developed by Mitsui Chemicals that is as supple as rubber at room temperature and can be bent, folded, twisted, and stretched without force. Although it is hard against the initial stress, it stretches gradually and returns to its original shape like felt. It is a new material that is temperature-dependent, soft when heated, and easily deformed. Even your body temperature is enough heat to deform to fit your body. It can be folded compactly if you warm it up, so it easy to carry around. It becomes hard when cooled.
A conventional pipe chair is wrapped in HUMOFIT®. Flat when folded and when unfolded, a chair with a tense and three-dimensional structure will appear. At first glance, it seems difficult to sit down, but when you actually sit down, it gradually changes to a shape that fits your body. It became an interesting new experience, and it showed new possibilities of HUMOFIT®.
It was unveiled in DESIGNART2020 / 1518 Creators Collaboration PJ at Real Style Aoyama store.
HUMOFIT®は、三井化学が開発した、常温でゴムのようにしなやかで、力をかけずに曲げたり、折ったり、ひねったり、伸ばしたりすることができる新素材です。初期応力に対して硬いものの、ジワジワと伸び、フェルトのように緩やかに元の形状に戻ります。温度依存性があり、加温すると柔らかく、変形させやすくなる新素材です。体温でカラダにフィットさせたり、温めてコンパクトに畳めば持ち運ぶのも容易です。冷やすと硬くなります。
従来のパイプ椅子をHUMOFIT®で包み込みました。畳んだ状態ではフラットになっており、広げることでテンションの張った立体感のある椅子が現れます。一見すると座れそうにない形ですが、実際に座ってみると体温によってじんわりと体にフィットする形に徐々に変化していきます。新たな体感としても興味深いものになり、HUMOFITの新たな可能性を見せてくれる物となった。
